Insadong & Jongno

인사동·종로

Insadong in Jongno-gu and the streets around it. Its spine, Insadong-gil, runs about 0.7km from the Anguk-dong rotary to Tapgol Park; galleries, calligraphy-brush shops and framers moved in from the 1970s, and today it is lined with antique, craft and souvenir shops plus the Ssamziegil arcade. Near Jongno 3-ga Station Exit 4, Ikseon-dong's hanok alleys, built from the 1920s, are now full of cafes and restaurants. From Myeongdong Station take Line 4 one stop to Chungmuro and change to Line 3: after Euljiro 3-ga and Jongno 3-ga comes Anguk. Anguk Exit 6 is the north end of Insadong-gil, and Exits 2 and 3 put Bukchon Hanok Village and Changdeokgung Palace within walking distance, so this is a half-day walk combined with palaces and hanok. Around Jongno 3-ga and Cheongjin-dong, old hangover-soup restaurants open before dawn, which takes care of breakfast.
