Public Toilets in Yongsan: Sinyongsan, Samgakji, Ichon and Yongsan Stations

The area is served by Sinyongsan, Samgakji and Ichon on Line 4, Samgakji on Line 6, and Yongsan Station, which is run by Korail. Seoul Metro's station-toilet data confirms where most of the toilets are and which side of the fare gates they sit on. Among the Seoul Metro Line 4 and 6 stations here, the one confirmed to have its toilet inside the gates is Ichon, the stop for the National Museum of Korea, so the order in which you use it matters. Below are only the locations and hours that could be confirmed.

Ichon Station (Line 4) — inside the gates, use it before the museum

Seoul Metro's station-toilet data lists it as inside the fare gates, in front of Exit 3 on B1. Open 05:00–24:00, with one accessible stall on each of the men's and women's sides. The Museum Nadeul-gil walkway to the National Museum of Korea is toward Exit 2, so use the toilet first, then tap out and head for Exit 2. If you came on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line, there is also a toilet inside its fare gates that appears on the open-restroom list supplied by the Seoul city government (56 m from Exit 5 per Kakao Map; its hours could not be confirmed from published sources).

Sinyongsan Station (Line 4) — outside the gates, Exit 4 side

The station for Yongridan-gil. Seoul Metro's station-toilet data lists it as outside the fare gates, nearest to Exit 4, on B1 at the Samgakji end. Open 05:00–24:00, with one accessible stall on each of the men's and women's sides.

Samgakji Station (Lines 4 and 6) — Line 6 toilet outside the gates, Exits 7 and 8

Seoul Metro's data lists the Line 6 toilet as outside the fare gates, beside Exits 7 and 8 in the concourse. The Line 4 toilet is near Exit 3, on the Sinyongsan side, but sources disagree on whether it is inside or outside the gates, so check the station signs. Both are open 05:00–24:00, with one accessible stall on each of the men's and women's sides.

Yongsan Station (Line 1 and Gyeongui–Jungang Line) — toilets both inside and outside the gates

It is run by Korail, so it is not in Seoul Metro's toilet data. Daum's station listing shows toilets both inside and outside the fare gates on Line 1 and on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line, but the floor, location and hours of each could not be confirmed from published sources. Kakao Map lists a "Yongsan Station open restroom" at 55 Hangang-daero 23-gil.

On the way to the National Museum of Korea — mind the hours

Per the museum's official information, it is open 09:30–17:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday and 09:30–21:00 on Wednesday and Saturday, and the permanent exhibition is free (only special exhibitions charge admission). The Museum Nadeul-gil walkway from Ichon Station is open 07:00–23:00 and stays shut on days the museum is closed. The museum's official pages do not say where its toilets are, so the safe bet is the one inside the gates at Ichon.

Subway stations — exit and re-enter within 15 minutes for free

Seoul's free re-entry started at 10 minutes in July 2023 and was extended to 15 minutes that October, so if you exit for the toilet and tap back in at the same station within 15 minutes you are not charged a new base fare; the re-entry is processed as one transfer. Line 4 between Jinjeop and Namtaeryeong and Line 6 between Eungam and Bonghwasan are covered, so Sinyongsan and Samgakji on Line 4 and Samgakji on Line 6 qualify. Yongsan Station (Line 1 and the Gyeongui–Jungang Line) and the Gyeongui–Jungang side of Ichon are run by Korail, which adopted the same 15-minute rule on 20 June 2026. On Korail lines you must re-enter through the same line's gates at the same station, the fare is waived only once per trip, and single-journey tickets and commuter passes are excluded.

Tips

  • The Ichon toilet is inside the gates, so you can only use it if you ride the subway; the Sinyongsan and Samgakji Line 6 toilets are outside the gates, so you can use them without riding. All the Seoul Metro station toilets here are open 05:00–24:00, so none is available after midnight.
  • Korea began removing bins from public toilets in January 2018, so used paper goes down the toilet.
  • Korean public toilets usually have paper, but in some it sits in a large dispenser outside the stalls rather than inside — take what you need before you go in. Keep pocket tissues in your bag in case it has run out.
