Public Toilets in Seongsu: Seongsu Station, Seoul Forest & Open Restrooms

Seongsu draws crowds for its pop-ups and cafes, but public toilets you can spot from the street are few. In practice your options are the station toilets, Seoul Forest, and private restrooms that building owners have opened to the public. Below is only what could be confirmed, by type.

Seongsu Station (Line 2) — outside the gates, enlarged in July 2026

The toilet at Seongsu Station is outside the fare gates. Seoul Metro rebuilt it after queues and complaints grew with passenger numbers, and reopened it on 21 July 2026. The floor area went from 76 m² to 123 m², stalls on the women's side from 11 to 21, urinals on the men's side from 4 to 7, and every squat toilet was replaced with a sit-down one.

Subway stations — exit and re-enter within 15 minutes for free

Seoul's free re-entry started at 10 minutes in July 2023 and was extended to 15 minutes that October, so if you exit for the toilet and tap back in at the same station within 15 minutes you are not charged a new base fare; the re-entry is processed as one transfer. Line 2 is covered along its whole length, so Seongsu and Ttukseom both qualify. Seoul Forest Station is on the Suin-Bundang Line, run by Korail, which adopted the same 15-minute rule on 20 June 2026. On Korail lines you must re-enter through the same line's gates at the same station, the fare is waived only once per trip, and single-journey tickets and commuter passes are excluded.

Seoul Forest — separate accessible toilets for men and women

Seoul Forest, on the western edge of Seongsu, is a city park with free entry, open year-round (some zones keep set hours, e.g. the Eco Forest 05:30–21:30). Seoul's accessible-tourism listing says its accessible toilets are separate from the regular ones and split by gender, with nappy-changing tables; the Korea Tourism Organization's accessibility listing notes a family restroom for small children in the park's Insect Botanical Garden (closed Mondays). How many toilets there are, where, and their hours could not be confirmed from published sources, so do not count on them late at night.

Private open restrooms — opened by building owners, backed by the district

Some building owners in Seongsu-dong have opened their restrooms to visitors of their own accord. In March 2026 Seongdong-gu said it would give 15 of these private open restrooms two extra boxes of toilet paper each quarter, and an extra 100,000 won a month in running costs to the six busiest, near Ttukseom and Seongsu stations. The district's announcement does not list addresses or hours, so look for an open restroom sign at the building entrance and assume it may close when the building does.

Cafes — doors are locked with a separate code

Cafe toilets in busy areas are often locked, and the code is usually on the door, at the counter, or printed on your receipt. They are meant for customers, so order first, then check the receipt — that is the reliable order of operations.

Tips

  • No public toilet in Seongsu could be confirmed as open 24 hours. If you will be out late, use the station toilet while the trains are still running.
  • Korea began removing bins from public toilets in January 2018, so used paper goes down the toilet.

A to B Seongsu

에이투비 성수

A cafe-bar on the second floor of 135 Achasan-ro: coffee and desserts by day, cocktails and highballs in the evening. DiningCode lists 12:00–23:00 daily with last order at 22:30, so it is closed in the morning and fits better into an evening plan. The signature item is "pigotchi", dried persimmon topped with cream cheese and pecans (₩10,000). It is about 170 m from Seongsu Station Exit 2.
