Which Exit at Gangnam Station: Picking the Right One

Gangnam Station has 12 exits, split between the two sides of Gangnam-daero. The concourse has an underground shopping arcade, but come up on the wrong side and you have to cross back. First work out which side of Gangnam-daero you are heading for, then pick the number.

Side first — 1–4, 11, 12 for Gangnam-gu; 5–10 for Seocho-gu

Gangnam Station sits under Gangnam-daero on the border of Gangnam-gu and Seocho-gu. Exits 1–4, 11 and 12 come up on the Yeoksam-dong (Gangnam-gu) side, and Exits 5–10 on the Seocho-dong (Seocho-gu) side. Just checking which district your destination is in on a map app rules out half the exits.

Exit 12 — 24-hour soup places and Kukkiwon off Teheran-ro

The Gangnam-gu side. The 24-hour soup places Boseung Hoegwan (about 170m) and Gangnam Jinhaejang (about 260m) are closest to this exit. Kukkiwon, the world taekwondo headquarters, is about 580m in this direction too.

Exit 11 — Gangnam-daero northbound, toward Sinnonhyeon

The exit for heading north up Gangnam-daero on the Gangnam-gu side, toward Sinnonhyeon. Exit listings put CGV at this exit. Daiso's Gangnam Station branch is about 260m from it.

Exit 10 — Olive Young Central Gangnam Town

The Seocho side. The large Olive Young Central Gangnam Town store is about 10m from the exit — right there as you come up.

Exit 9 — Megabox Gangnam cinema

The Seocho side. Megabox Gangnam is about 60m from the exit, and exit listings put it here too.

Exits 3–6 — the Shinbundang Line exits

Exits 3–6 are run by the Shinbundang Line and were added toward Bangbang Sageori (to the south) when that line opened. Exits 3 and 4 are on the Gangnam-gu side, 5 and 6 on the Seocho side. Isaac Toast Gangnam is about 200m from Exit 6.

For Kyobo Bookstore and CGV, Sinnonhyeon is closer

Kyobo Bookstore Gangnam is about 50m from Exit 8 of Sinnonhyeon Station, and CGV Gangnam about 280m from Sinnonhyeon Exit 6. Sinnonhyeon is one stop from Gangnam on the Shinbundang Line, so if either is your goal, getting off there saves walking.

Tips

  • When the Shinbundang Line opened in 2011, four exits were added and the old exits 3–8 were renumbered 7–12. Exit numbers in older articles may not match today's, so go by a map app.
  • The Shinbundang Line charges a separate fare on top of the normal subway fare. According to the Seoul city guide (updated 1 October 2026), the short-term Climate Card for visitors cannot be used on the Shinbundang Line, so that includes the Sinsa–Gangnam stretch inside Seoul. On a short-term pass, go between Sinsa and Gangnam on Line 3 and Line 2, changing at Gyodae.

Boseung Hoegwan Gangnam Station

보승회관 강남역직영점

A company-run branch of a sundae-gukbap (pork and blood-sausage rice soup) chain on Teheran-ro 1-gil, close to Exit 12 of Gangnam Station, open 24 hours. Sundae gukbap and pork gukbap are ₩11,000, and a one-person set with a soup plus boiled pork and sundae is ₩16,000. There is a bar counter for solo diners along the window, and you order with the QR code or tablet at your seat. Kakao Map and three September 2026 blogs all list it as open 24 hours.

Duseong Jeonju Kongnamul Gukbap, Gangnam Station

두성전주콩나물국밥 강남역점

A Jeonju-style kongnamul gukbap (bean-sprout soup with rice) restaurant in an alley on Yeoksam-ro 3-gil, behind Exit 4 of Gangnam Station. Kakao Map and DiningCode list it as open 24 hours every day, but a notice on Naver and an October 2026 blog say it closes from 21:00 Sunday to 09:00 Monday. The house kongnamul gukbap is ₩8,000 and the kimchi version ₩9,000 (Naver and DiningCode), which makes it one of the cheaper soup breakfasts around Gangnam Station.

Egg Drop Sinnonhyeon Station

An egg-sandwich shop in the basement of a building toward Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station. It opens at 07:00 every day; closing is 20:30 per Naver, DiningCode and a blog but 21:00 per Kakao Map. You order at a kiosk, and the American Ham Cheese sandwich was ₩5,600 (August 2026 blog).

Gangnam Jinhaejang

강남진해장

A haejangguk (Korean hangover soup) and beef-tripe hotpot restaurant on Teheran-ro 5-gil, toward Exit 12 of Gangnam Station. A September 2026 blog describes it as open 24 hours with no day off, while Kakao Map shows it closed from 21:30 on Sunday to 06:30 on Monday; it is open early every other morning. The signature yang-seonji haejangguk, with beef tripe and blood curd, is ₩13,000 and naejangtang (offal soup) ₩16,000. In the evening the large hall fills with people sharing hotpot over drinks.
